A Pleasant Surprise

May 22, 2011

I noticed a rosebud starting to form a few days ago on one of my bare root roses. I was anticipating it’s bloom so I could see if it was either the Reine des Violettes or the Don Juan.

Well, it bloomed (mostly) this morning, and guess what?! It’s neither. It’s my Peace rose that I thought was a goner! I’m very excited. I searched high and low for what I thought would be a good plant and was very disappointed when I thought it was the one with the giant crack in the stem.

The only thing is, now I really don’t know what variety the other plant is. Oops.

Isn’t it beautiful?

The other one hasn’t bloomed yet, and this one’s already got another bud on the way. This is my very first rose! I haven’t killed it!

Very pretty! Did you know that strawberries are actually closer to a rose than to another kind of fruit?
